Spring Science Happenings

Science was in the air at the kids' school this April and May. Both boys completed a science project. Ethan studied how the length of wire and weight of pendulum affect the speed of the pendulum's swing. Noah used the science fair as an excuse to hit baseballs; he looked into what bats produced the best hits. His variables were bat length and weight.

Thank goodness for Aaron; without him, these projects would be a lot more elementary. Science is not my area of expertise. But Aaron was able to work with the boys so that they truly understood why or why not their hypotheses were correct. I know for a fact that Ethan and Noah learned a lot along the way. Aaron brought out their inner nerd, and that's a good thing! Noah even won first place amongst the 2nd graders.

The elementary school also sponsored a Science Day, and parents were invited to come in to the classrooms for demonstrations. Ethan's class sang a song (that's him looking utterly unenthusiastic in the video) and made solar-powered ovens to cook smores. Noah's room was set up like a museum, and his exhibit was 'Mistakes That Worked.' He told visitors about various inventions that began as a mistake -- like potato chips, the Slinky, and a couple of other things.
